Palestine Books in Libraries - A UK Micro-Campaign
Why This Campaign?
Since October 2023, an genocidal Israeli war machine has been systematically exterminating the Palestinian people. As of September 2026, at least 70,000 people in Gaza have been killed, with around 50% of the victims are women and children. The violence is beyond horrifying: think of killing of Rind Hajab, a five year old girl found in a car with 335 bullet holes in. Large parts of Gaza have been flattened completely, obliterated with use of some of the most advanced military technologies in the world being tested on civilians. People are systematically starved, denied food and medicine.
Israel of course blames Hamas, but the roots of this genocide go back to 1948, decades before Hamas existed. This was when the state of Israel was created as Jewish state. In Palestinian this is known as the Nakba, when Palestinian people were thrown from their lands and their histories buried.
As well as some of the most advanced military technologies, Israel puts huge effort into propaganda to manage their public image, and so education is a vital part of understanding and resisting this. In an age of clickbait headlines, fake news and AI generated content, this campaign aims to build more accessible, in-depth resources for people across the UK. We hope this will lead to a better understanding of Israeli apartheid and the dispossession of Palestinian people.
Why Libraries?
Put simply, the idea of free books for our communities is a radical idea! But in the UK libraries are underfunded and under-resourced. Many have closed down because of ongoing financial cuts from local and national governments.
Often people are not engaged with their local libraries, and libraries are easier to close down if people do not use them. By requesting books, you are actively helping keep your local libraries running by showing there is demand.
Being part of this campaign means you can help both to keep your libraries open and build an educational resource on Palestine. Through this campaign we hope to:
- Increase people's knowledge about the Israeli occupation
- Build and improve local educational resources
- Reconnect people to their local libraries and communities
